Fluking was much better this past week in Long Island Sound with an improvement noted in both size and quantity of fish landed. (Photo courtesy of Lucky Hook Charters)
Fluking has really picked up speed this week with the best action centered around Niantic Bay. The numbers of 8- to 12-pound fluke reported this week outnumber the sum total from the reports of the whole rest of the summer! Snapper blues seem to be playing a role in the bite, but finding any bait close to bottom seems to be a good way to start. Stripers are still very good in a number of locations, the waters adjacent to the CT River and the Gut, Sluice and Race seem to be the hottest spots right now, with the Norwalk Islands still going strong as well. Porgies seem to be unstoppable this season and the bite has just been phenomenal, from border to border, shore and boat. The fishing is good, the weather is (mostly) nice, don’t let the last month of summer pass you by, the albies will be here before we know it!
