Triggerfish, king and Spanish mackerel, northern kingfish, and several other “southern species” were landed in local waters this week. (Photo courtesy of Dicks Bait & Tackle)
If you’re looking for some “SOUTHERN” action you just might want to try middle Buzzards Bay where Spanish mackerel, along with a few trigger fish and at least two king mackerel in the 12-pound class were caught this past week. A few years ago, Paul Newmier and Connie Codner were fishing with me in central Buzzards Bay where we caught a couple of northern kingfish while we were fishing for black sea bass. If this shift continues one angler joked that in a few years the stripers might find themselves in third place behind snook and cobia. Stranger things have happened.
