HIT THE REEFS

Posted By Tom Melton, August 6, 2018
HIT THE REEFS
Bay has been yielding its share of keeper fluke, like this one brought into Silly Lily Fishing Station.
The heat continues to blast Long Island and this week will be no different. The positive news is the winds have died off, making the ocean a viable option for fluke, sea bass, ling and porgies. The bay is still producing fluke, with Moriches having an edge on the keeper ratio. If you want larger fluke, not is the time to try larger baits – whole squid, live spot, snappers or peanut bunker and long strip baits. Want to bend a rod this week? Either grab some clams or spot and try for bass in Moriches Inlet, or at the Moses Bridge. Another nice option would be to hop aboard one of the Captree party boats running evening bottom fishing trips for sea bass, porgies and ling.

The bluefish have been working the beaches out in Southampton! Went home with a few nice sized blues this past week off white and pink buck tail

Caught this Black Sea bass on July 28, 2018 just outside the shinnecock canal. The smaller one is a keeper.
