GO DEEP FOR JUMBO SEA BASS

GO DEEP FOR JUMBO SEA BASS
Two of the four mackerel decked on a Christmas Tree rig aboard the Starstream.
The weather continues to wreak havoc on sailing schedules but there were a few bright spots on the fishing front this past week. The Capt. Al out of Point Lookout reported a decent shot of cod on Sunday with the high hook bagging seven fish to 12 pounds. Capt. Anthony on the Freeport based Starstream has been getting into the mackerel when the weather allows, and will be making some long range runs for tilefish this month and next. Montauk has been relatively quiet, largely due to the weather. Herring reports are very scattered and inconsistent and there is little being said about white perch so far this winter. Trout remain an option in Connetquot State Park Preserve. The first of the winter shows are coming up this month beginning with Striper Day on Sunday, January 20 at Ward Melville High School. Following that one is the New York Boat Show at the Javits Convention Center January 23-27.
