As one would expect, not much in the way of fishing reports between all of the wind and some bitterly cold temperatures sprinkled among an occasional mild day. The Capt. Al managed to pick some cod on Saturday, but most boats with scheduled sailings failed to get away from the dock this past week as the weather continued to wreak havoc on sailing schedules. Another blast of arctic air and some snow is forecast for midweek, with diminishing winds but cold temps heading into the weekend. When we do get a good weather window, be ready to jump if you are looking to squeeze in some cod fishing this winter. Both herring and white perch have been pretty much uncooperative this winter, and this next blast of cold air isn’t likely to help. Trout fishing in Connetquot State Park, where wind is less of a factor, again looks like the best bet to bend a rod this week.

If you are itching to get out of the house this coming weekend, take a stroll around the Route 110 Fishing Flea Market at Camelot Hall on Route 110 (Broadhollow Road) in Melville. It takes place on Sunday (February 3) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., leaving you plenty of time to get settled in for the Super Bowl. Admission is $5.
