15-POUND DOORMAT ON EBB TIDE II
Mr. Ra with the 15-pound doormat fluke he decked aboard the Montauk based Ebb Tide II on Saturday, May 18.
Porgies have invaded Long Island Sound and very good fishing for scup continues in the Peconics. Montauk saw a nice shot of fluke along the south side, but the real news was the 15-pound doormat caught aboard the Ebb Tide II by Mr. Ra on Saturday. Bluefish action picked up steam as the yellow eyes are now settled into all of the Islands south side inlets from Rockaway to Shinnecock. Some big bass are making their presence felt in the Western Sound, along the western South Shore and out east in South Ferry. Plenty of schoolies are spread through most South Shore bays and North Shore harbors. Weakfish numbers improved in Peconic and Great South bays, and are showing up in porgy catches in the Western Sound. Surfcasters found good action with blues in a number of South Shore and South Fork areas this week.
