This big black sea bass wans landed on the Black Hawk while fishing off Block Island last week.
This week’s best option is not a certain species, but instead a type of fishing: bottom fishing. Inshore you get some good blackfish including some double-digits in Buzzards Bay, off Newport, by Narragansett and inside Long Island Sound. Mixed with those tog have been black sea bass and cod, but bigger sizes and better action on both is being seen around Block Island right now. While there were some doggies to contend with on those deeper grounds this week, it’s only expected this time of the season. You might also get some big porgies, winter flounder and even a weakfish or two out around the island.
