Bayside Linesides
Mike Mullen shows off a 27-1/2-inch bulkhead fish, one of several "shy of keeper" class stripers he's caught on the west side of Barnegat Bay. "There's some bigger ones swimming round," said Dennis at Murphy's Hook House, adding "who's gonna get the first keeper out of the Toms River?"
By the line-up of cars and trucks along Route 9 evident on a daily basis, just about everyone knows about the “hot spot” for stripers; without being blasted for “spot burning” the fact is that striper action is turning on and several open water locations, with swim shads (white/pearl) taking fish behind IBSP, out around the Route 37 Bridge and along several bulkheads and bridge abutments of note. The flounder bite is consistent on the west side of the lower Barnegat Bay and up as far as Mantoloking and the south side of the Canal.
