Holy Mackerel!

Holy Mackerel!
The old school mackerel rig is finding its way to some Delaware tackle shops of late as Boston mackerel are showing up along the Delaware and Maryland coast.
These guys may be a long way from Boston, but the reported mackerel catches along the DELMARVA peninsula have some folks scrambling for Yankee style rigs in recent days. “It's been a long time since we've seen any numbers off the coast of Delaware,” said Rick at Rick’s Bait & Tackle who said he’s had to scramble through storage to find mackerel rigs for folks looking to score. Eric Burnley told us that Capt. Monty Hawkins on the Morning Star was making the run out of Ocean City, MD for the macks last week, and their presence along the coast could be a good sign of things to come on the bluefish and striper front, mackerel being an ideal forage species for those spring gamefish.
