Once again the weather takes center stage with the past weekend locked in a deep freeze and a howling northeaster/snowstorm battering the Island and metro area. With fishing reports non-existent, you might want to set your sights on some indoor activity this week.
Paul McCain at River Bay Outfitters in Oceanside reminded that this Saturday, March 18th, is the day for the Long Island Fly Fishing Expo at the Holiday Inn (exit 46 off of the LIE) in Plainview. Show hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and admission is $10, with children under 18 free. The expo will feature dealers, manufacturers and fly tiers from all over the Northeast, and we will be there so stop by and say hello. We’ll also have a pair of Star aluminum fishing pliers for you if subscribe or renew an existing subscription. Go to www.longislandflyfishingexpo.org for more details.
And, don’t forget to mark your calendar for the Long Island Boat Show taking place at Grumman Studios in Bethpage from March 23 through the 26th. Many local dealers will be on hand and they are promising some great deals to help get you on the water in 2017. Show hours are noon to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday with lots of free parking. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and $5 for children 6 to 15. Go to www.nyboatshows.com for more info.
