FISHING LOGS: Long Island, Metro NY
South Shore

Posted By Tom Melton, April 17, 2017
Flounder action improved with the mild weather. Luke Figlia with a nice flattie from the Bay Shore flats.
I thought this was going to be the week it all started but cooler night time temperatures and wind held anglers at bay. The flounder action picked up slightly with fish in West and Dickersons channels, plus the Heckscher Flats. The big news is some stripers showing with several reports of keeper size bass filtering in. The bay is loaded with bait, which bodes well for the coming weeks. Up island, towards Jamaica Bay and Raritan Bay in Jersey, stripers are gaining speed so it is only a matter of time before they are in our backyard. Back to flounder, fish the muddy flats after the sun has warmed them a bit for best results. For bass, sand worms, bunker or soft plastic Bass Assassins will produce.
