FISHING LOGS: Long Island, Metro NY
East End

Posted By Tony Salerno, May 15, 2017
Porgies like this 4 pounder caught by Patti Tingle on the Shinnecock Star are grabbing headlines this week on the East End.
It’s been porgy paradise inside the Peconic’s again this week as open, charter and private boats anchored and doling frozen clam chum from Jessup Neck to Rogers Rock are seeing easy limits on a daily basis, which will be this week’s best bet. Big bluefish, weakfish and some keeper stripers are mixing in as well to keep things interesting. Montauk continues to remain quiet, however most charter and open boats from the Mecca will be on the fluke chase this weekend and the docks will once come alive with optimistic enthusiastS looking to nail a doormat or two. The Shinnecock Canal has plenty of fluke smacking at bucktails jigged along the banks, along with lots of sea robins to keep the rods bent.

Wednesday June 17, 2017 - We went up to Cherry Harbor with 12 guys on an open boat but after several attempts, it was hard to find the scup…we failed with only a dozen scup to 4 lbs. The past couple of days were very good scup fishing but not many blues around. Today there were lots of blues which probably spooked the scup. Hopefully the scup will bounce back as soon as the blues thin out. Then we went on the back side fluking, west of Frisbees in about 70 feet of water and found nice body of keeper fluke. We managed 18 keepers to 5.5 lbs. along with smattering of blues to 8 lbs. and several lg knot head sea bass to 5 lbs which we released. We are running an open boat combo trip for jumbo scup (porgy) and doormat fluke from 6am – 3pm on the following days: May 20th, 22nd, 26th and 29th (Memorial Day). $150 pp by reservation only. Contact Capt Mark at 516-882-1985.
