SEA BASSIN’ TAKES A PAUSE

SEA BASSIN’ TAKES A PAUSE
If you’re looking to load up on a 15 fish bag limit on black sea bass, get out there this week before the limited spring season ends on June 18, as boats like the Barb Gail IV are hitting the wreck sites heavy until then.
If you want sea bass, this is your last week to get them before the season closes until July; and by all reports, it's worth the effort to fish for them because the fishing continues to be hot. That may be partly thanks to the invasion of sand eels, which are being seen in numbers that haven't been around for a while from what we’re hearing. If fluking's your game, the place to be is the bays and the rivers. Though the fishing is improving outside, it's still far better inside, with nice fat fish up to 8 pounds hitting the scales. The offshore scene is continuing to draw attention as bluefin tuna and some bigeyes are being pulled from the Hudson and the Toms. Shark fishing has been firing up; blue sharks Striped bass fishing is simply confounding. Boat anglers are having to work very hard for their bass, but it sounds like there's hope for the surf fishermen, as the Long Beach Island surf reports started to pick up late in the week.

Sal Monachello Little Egg Harbor, NJ , Bryan & Sandi Kalinowski. BRICK, NJ - 121 days ago

61717 Epic striped bass blitz at the Barnegat Light inlet, our target was summer flounder, after 4 hours of no bites Sandi tried a different spot and we ended up in a striped bass frenzy! GAME ON!!! At times all rods bent at the same time, exhausting, ended up with one keeper each 28" 29" and 31" limited out in size within 20 min. Blitz lasted over an hour with 25 total caught and released average 25" to 31" Could not find the 43"+ for the 2nd keeper but we had a blast. . No bunker or birds in the area that we noticed, just got lucky. 23" summer flounder caught day before by Sal same spot. All strippers caught with flounder rigs using light tackle. BEST DAY SO FAR THIS SEASON.
