TROPHY BASS OFF THE HOOK

Posted By J. B. Kasper, June 19, 2017
TROPHY BASS OFF THE HOOK
Trophy striper action off Sandy Hook has been “off the hook” in the past week with many of the Raritan Bayshore fleet into big stripers in the 30- to 50-pound range, including Capt. Fletcher Chayes who has put his charters into bass on live baits and plugs as well.
The big news this past week was the heavy duty action with big bass in the 25 to 50-plus pound range off Sandy Hook and just down from. Reports we got told of bass boiling on the surface chasing bunker and hitting anything you threw at them. No question it as the acme of the spring bass run. Whether we see more of this type of fishing this week is anyone’s guess, especially with the crazy weather that is predicted. On the fluke front fishing continues to be spotty but improving as water temps are slowly coming up. Bluefishing has calmed down and is now being dominated by smaller blues in the bay and inshore and occasional shots of bigger slammers in the ocean. Sea bass fishing went out on a good note with decent fishing this past week.
