MANASQUAN INLET REEF

Posted By Karen Wall, June 18, 2017
MANASQUAN INLET REEF
The first deployment on the new Manasquan Inlet Reef site is scheduled to take place this week consisting of 1,500 tons of precast concrete material donated by Garden State Precast in Wall Township. The Greater Point Pleasant Charter Boat Association, with help from the Ocean Reef Foundation and the thesportfishingfund.org, have sponsored the towing and deployment 1.7 miles outside of Manasquan.
If you're looking for striped bass fishing or bluefish, patience continues to be the key. If you work at it, you will be rewarded — just ask the guys who caught the 57-pounder. She was photographed and then safely released, they assured me. The hot talk is fluke. Not so much out front, though that fishery is showing improvement. It's inside the bays and in the suds where the fishing continues to produce really nice fish. If you haven't hit the surf for some fluke fishing — the reports are better the farther south in Ocean County that you go — you are missing out. In fact, they're good enough that I am oh-so-tempted to hobble out to the water with my booted-broken leg to give it a shot. If only that was a realistic option! Shark fishing is picking up, just in time for Mako Mania and Mako Fever this weekend. There's definitely fishing to be done, even if the feds have slammed the door on the fabulous sea bass fishing.
