WEST END BAYS, MORICHES BAY AND OCEAN FOR KEEPER FLUKE

WEST END BAYS, MORICHES BAY AND OCEAN FOR KEEPER FLUKE
Location is critical if you are looking to score some keeper fluke.
Summer begins this week and at times it already appears we are into the summer doldrums. Fluke action however remains a Moriches Bay or Fire Island ocean bite for best results. This past week there was a good bite in the latter stages between the Amityville Cut and points west with fish to 5 pounds reported, and quite a few of them. Back inside Moriches Bay, the water is clear and the bite is decent with fish to 6-1/2 pounds landed this week. Blues remain a viable option, especially the early evening hours before dark as the party boats and recreational boaters have scored well. For striper action, clams and clam chum in Moriches Inlet or the Moses Bridge are the best options inside the bays, while larger fish continue to show outside the inlet both east and west. To the east there were reports of bass to 31 on the pods, while west, trolling bunker spoons or Mojo’s produced bass to 38.
