FLUKE AND STRIPERS HOT

Posted By Tony Salerno, July 10, 2017
FLUKE AND STRIPERS HOT
A brace of doormats caught aboard the Montauk Star over the weekend.
Moon or no moon the bass fishing has been exceptional for the past several weeks. Whether trolling parachutes on wire, diamond jigging, employing live bait or tossing plugs, as long as you have the tide, you have the fish. As predicted, the July lunar phase has produced some phenomenal fishing with all the marinas reporting weighing in 5 to 10 bass a day over the 40 pound mark. You read right, every day. There are quite a few fish in the mid-50’s that are coming back to the dock from the charter boats as well. In the meantime, the big fluke have arrived with many fish in the 7 to 10 pound range coming from the Montauk waters, which I suspect will remain solid for the remainder of the summer. Although it should be another solid week of fluke fishing, the nod for best bet this week goes to striped bass as the fishing continues to be red hot as we come off the moon. Either way, you should not be disappointed at whatever you decide. Porgies and sea bass remain plentiful and provides loads of fun and tasty fillets for all who seek them. A new body of fluke have invaded the Shinnecock area, while sea bass and porgy fishing remains torrid off Rocky and Horton Points. Shark fishing has exploded offshore.
