Plenty of good fluke were landed off Connecticut this week like this 9.6-pounder weighed-in at AW Marina in New London.
Boat anglers are smashing good bass in several locations like Montauk, Milford, Norwalk and, of course, Block Island. Fluking has been pretty good this week, too, with some large fish landed between Niantic and Montauk. And yes, it’s true, there have been reports of bonito from Point Judith, Newport and Watch Hill. What does this mean? I can’t remember the last time there was a reliable bonito bite anywhere in Rhode Island or Connecticut. But, it still means the beginning of ‘funny fish’ mania. Within the next 1 to 5 weeks the world as it relates to fishing will be vibrating like the tail of an albie on a boat deck. My advice, buy all the tackle and lures now, instead of waiting until only pink Deadly Dicks are left. August doesn’t always live up to its doldrum reputation. School is right around the corner, get those kids out on a charter before it’s too late!

Landed a decent doormat using squid bait over the weekend just north of 20 off of Stratford. 25-26"er.
