FISHING LOGS: Long Island, Metro NY
South Shore

Posted By Tom Melton, September 18, 2017
Good numbers of weakfish have settled into Great South Bay. Nicole Cook with one of many she has caught from mainland docks in recent weeks.
Hurricane Jose is going to cause havoc and an un-fishable ocean this week, so for the best bet, let’s hit the water early or at dusk for weakfish. The best bet is going to be the north side of Great South Bay in the Copiague Hole or on the south side from Kismet to points east towards Ocean Beach. Anglers targeting them have found sand worms on a jig or Bass Assassins in pink the best bait. If you can get some grass shrimp, try chumming them up. A whole sand worm on a small Diamond Jig dragged along the drop-offs is another great option. Another option would be fishing the outgoing current in either Moriches Inlet or along South Beach in Great South Bay in search of bass. Live eels will be your best option, but you can also try live bunker or spot as well.
