FALL IS PICKEREL TIME

Posted By Tom Melton, September 25, 2017

From Ken Bliss I learned that the that Wantagh Twin Lakes and Brady Park Lake (smaller Massapequa reservoir) were fishing very well the last several weeks with both big largemouth bass and pickerel. Ken fished the early a.m. shift using topwater frogs for bass and Senko worms for pickerel.
From Steve Gilman I heard the pickerel action in Massapequa is on fire. While fishing Saturday, Steve had his largest pickerel ever, a fish pushing 5 pounds. That’s a big pickerel for our waters. On Sunday he had three, one of which was large as well, but not as big as the day before. All his action was had Buzzbaits and a Stanley spinnerbait. The lake is very clean, so fish the remaining weeds. Steve also reported that while at Southards Pond he had three bass. Perch to 8 inches are still hitting small spinners.
