TOG OPENS THURSDAY

Posted By Tom Melton, October 2, 2017
TOG OPENS THURSDAY
Blackfish season opens Thursday and the fish have already set up on inshore structure.
Although I really believe the striper bits is about to break open locally, I think this week’s best bet – from Thursday on – should be blackfish. The fish are there on the local wrecks and pieces inside the bays. The fish should have the feed bag on, especially for those throwing green crabs. For best results, try anchoring up and be fishing at least 1-1/2 hours before high current, then fish into the outgoing. The changeover usually produces well, but I have had better bouts with larger fish when the current is still pushing. If you want stripers, right now, live spot is the way to go in Moriches Bay. They have been the ticket for bass from school size to 30 pounds.
