MONSTER BLUES

MONSTER BLUES
PHOTO CAPTION Looking for a Dream Boat contending fish? Giant bluefish in the teens into twenties have shown up on the North Jersey grounds where boats including the Miss Belmar Princess are putting anglers into the jigging action on monster choppers.
Finally a week of better conditions along the northern coast! While we did away with the storms, Mother Nature is still under the delusion that it’s still summer; as a result of the recent warm water temps in the bays, backwater areas and along the oceanfront are above normal for this time of the year. This has kept the baitfish from starting the fall migrations and intern limited the movements of bass and other fish. On the upside we got our first reports of schools of bass showing up at the Shrewsbury Rocks. Nothing heavy but a couple short lived mini blitzes occurred there late in the week. Mixed size bluefish with some bonito, albacore and occasional weakfish and bass are still beating upon the baitfish in Raritan Bay and a limited amount of bass, mostly local fish, were caught this past week. Sinker bouncers continue to enjoy good catches of porgies and tog, along with tons of throwback sea bass, fluke, tog and other regulation limited fish. Party boats out of Shark River and Atlantic Highlands have been getting into a few big bluefish in recent days – a few really good Dream Boat qualifiers we might add! Last but not least yellowfin, bluefin and mahi are being seen on some offshore boats.
