WONDERFUL WEAKIES
“And it's happening another day of the trout Bonanza,” said Capt. Mike Rothman on Saturday morning out of Fortescue where weakfish are showing up for Delaware Bay anglers aboard boats like the Bonanza II. “Got to love the fall,” added Mike.
This past week in South Jersey saw significantly calmer seas and though anglers had access to the outside, closed seasons kept most folks inshore. Weakfish have hung around much to angler’s delights and blackfishing was again on the forefront, particularly in Atlantic City and Ocean City’s structures. Spot and kingfish were still stacked on Brigantine’s beaches, though the spot made it a chore to get at any good numbers of kings. Bluefish are ramping it up in most locations and growing, and small bass in the Mullica and Egg Harbor rivers have anglers looking for that first 28-incher. Some blowfish are showing in the Tuckerton Bay and a bit north, but the numbers and sizes aren’t quite as thick as those in Barnegat Bay just yet.
