FISHING LOGS: Long Island, Metro NY
North Shore

Posted By Bob Danielson, October 16, 2017
Blackfish are being caught in good numbers, with many an inch or two short of legal size, and some quality tog also in the mix.
Good fall fishing with lots of different species to target is what we’ve been hearing. The porgies are still providing loads of action with fish up to three pounds in the reports this week. Sea bass have been mixing in and we’ve heard of fish to 4 pounds in the reports this week. The sea bass have been on the deeper spots though. Blues have been showing up but they’ve been following the schools of bait. The middle of the Island has been seeing some very big bluefish with at least one 19 pound fish getting weighed in. Stripers have also been more active in the reports this week. There was one report of a fish near 40 pounds getting landed from the West End. Weakfish have been around in good numbers and up to 8 pounds. The biggest conversation has been about the blackfishing so far this season. Word of catches of over 100 fish per trip and only a couple of keepers in the mix has been noted more than a few times over the past two weeks since the season opened. We have heard of keepers up to the 9 pound mark though so there are a few keepers to be had.
