OFFSHORE WINDOWS
Ryan Worley of Wildwood with a 151-pound bigeye tuna caught while fishing the canyons on Tim McGregor’s boat Reel Maniacs. That fur ball on the porch of Sterling Harbor Marina is Stari!
The past week saw anglers take advantage of what the balmy waters offered and with temperatures still in high 60’s and up around 70 in some spots, there was plenty of action. Blackfishing was on the forefront as folks hit up the local structure, and a 15-inch white chin was relatively easy to find. There were weakfish in the mix, plenty of small blues and even some summer species including a few sheepshead and a stray trigger or two. The rivers are seeing lots of small bass hitting anything from top water to eels to fresh chunk baits, and those with bonus tags have now found some fish over 24 inches to take, including a few liners over 28 inches. Perch fishing is going well for those who search out a hole, and sea bass season starts in just a week as anglers’ chomp away to get out front.
