FISHING LOGS: Long Island, Metro NY
South Shore

Posted By Tom Melton, October 30, 2017
A nice striper caught aboard the Captree open boat Fishfinder.
Finally it appears the fall run of stripers has arrived in full force…well not full force, but at least in a positive way. Anglers trolling outside this past week had bass over 40 pounds, and I also learned the action to the east was good on the pods. The night bite has increased, but still not what it should be in my opinion. For this week, if you want larger bass, there are several options. First off, live spots or bunker are probably going to produce best inside and out. If the inlet and ocean are fishable, get out early and search for bunker schools. Trolling Mojo’s or bunker spoons is another option that will surely account for a few bigger fish, especially fishing west towards Gilgo.
