ROCK IN THE SURF

ROCK IN THE SURF
Brian Smith shows off a pair 32-inch stripers caught at Roosevelt Inlet on poppers last week where reports have more of the linesides taking topwaters in recent days.
Tog, flounder and black sea bass are the best bet for this week. It is possible to catch all three on one trip, but most anglers will target one and if they get a limit of that species they will target a second one. The ocean is likely to produce the largest seas bass and flounder with the bay seeing some impressive tog. Tog have also been caught out of the ocean. All three are going to be on hard structure such as reefs, wrecks or rocks. Crabs and sand fleas will be the best baits. On the Chesapeake, striped bass continue to school up and may be found from the Magothy to the Severn rivers. As always, the largest fish will be on the bottom of the school so make sure you let your jig drop all the way down or troll with a heavy weight to reach these fish.
