FISHING LOGS: Long Island, Metro NY
North Shore

Posted By Bob Danielson, November 6, 2017
Blackfish are capturing most of the attention in Long Island Sound with fish to 10 pounds reported this past week.
Striper fishing has been seeing an uptick in activity this week. Plenty of stripers have been falling to both bait and artificials. There really hasn’t been any big fish landed this week but we have heard of fish to 20 pounds. The local beaches have seen plenty of fish to 24 inches or so but the bigger fish have been taken from deeper water. There were very few reports of bluefish except for Thursday in Mt. Sinai where they had blitzing fish to 15 pounds crashing a school of adult bunker in the afternoon. Blackfish is still where most anglers are directing their efforts. The keeper to short ratio has been improving but there are still loads of short fish mixing in. We’ve heard of fish to about 10 pounds this week and that’s a solid fish in anyone’s book. We are all just hoping the fishery gets better. I did hear that the regulations for blackfish in 2018 will be 3 fish at 16 inches with a 30 day season in the spring and a 60 day season in the fall. That’s not too bad considering that we were originally looking at a 1 fish bag limit with a very limited season.
