THE HEAT IS ON!

Posted By Nick Honachefsky, November 13, 2017
Here we go! Even though the northern part of the state has been on surf bass for a little while, the central and southern shores have now seen a pretty solid push of fish into their areas. From shorts to sows, bass have been hitting bunker chunks, snagged bunker, plugs, poppers, metals, you name it. The cold snap even seems to have brought sand eels into the area. This could be the week it blows wide open, and there’s only one way to find out, get out there! In the LBI Classic, the standings as of press time landed like this: John Matt (48 pounds), Anthony Mormile (35.52 pounds) and John Baxter (29.76 pounds) have the top three bass, while Rob Vallone (15.16 pounds), Gary Grippaldi (14.12 pounds) and Chet Bojarski (13.16 pounds) have top three bluefish. Youth division striper leader thus far is Logan Johnson with Quinn Rutan having the top junior’s bluefish. Cathy Thiel holds the lead for the largest striped bass in the Women’s Division. The LBI Classic runs through December 10.
