Trying for Trout

Posted By Toby Lapinski, January 9, 2017
Trying for Trout
If you can find some open water on the Cape or just over the mainland from the Canal, trout fishing remains a best bet this week.
The irony of too much ice but not enough ice plagues the area as safe, fishable ice is scarcer than a winter cod from shore but finding open water to wet a line is proving just as difficult. There have been scattered reports of holdover schoolie bass as well as some white perch in the smaller tidal rivers and salt ponds, or you head out onto the Cape and try for some trout where open water is a little easier to find.
