FISHING LOGS: New Jersey & Delaware Bay
Southern New Jersey

Posted By Greg Metcalf, April 16, 2018
Blackfish offer the best opportunity in South Jersey for folks looking to hop on a charter like Capt. Mike’s Stray Cat out of Ocean City.
The past week of fishing saw much of the same action as last week as anglers mixed it up, catching small bass inshore and a good number of large perch, with a few folks checking out the inshore haunts for keeper blackfish before the end of the month squash. A couple captains did get a window early in the week to go out front for tog and did quite well before weekend winds and rain shut them down again. A few weakfish being weighed to the north is a sure sign that the bite is slowly increasing, and water temps are still in the 40’s as cool weather remains in place. The coming week looks to be comfortable where air temps are concerned, and a few more keeper bass are being caught as participation rises. A crazy bite on bass in the Raritan Bay this past week has anglers to the south wondering where those bass came from, and the southern Jersey area is seeing a good run of bait, including bunker and herring, a great sign for the future.
