IT’S THE CLIMB

Things are progressing nicely on the striper front. Fish to almost 40 pounds were reported from places like Hempstead Harbor and City Island. As you travel east the fish get a little smaller, but anywhere from NYC to the Connecticut River offers a reasonable chance at fish to 20 pounds and many smaller ones. Fluking has been slow in some spots and decent in others. The best fluking in Connecticut is happening in Niantic Bay where fish to 23 inches were reported this week. For those not averse to making a steam Montauk, Greenport and Peconic Bay have been producing well also. Porgies are starting to show also and they are of the hubcap variety. Every week in May we seem to achieve a new level of fishing intensity, and I love that!
