FISHING LOGS: New Jersey & Delaware Bay
Northern New Jersey & Hudson River

Posted By J. B. Kasper, May 14, 2018
The Tuesday opening of black sea bass is big news for the Highlands, Atlantic Highlands and Belmar fleet this week.
It was an interesting week of fishing along the northern coast this past week. There is no question the bass were in the bay with the better numbers being in the back bay and in the deeper channels. However, most boat captains told me that while the fishing was very good early in the week by mid-week you really had to work to put together a good catch of keepers. Fishing in the ocean has simply been non-existent within the three mile limit. Some big bluefish did move into the bay and rivers and the big slammers did produce some false hopes for bass fishermen. A lot of people are betting on the coming new moon to produce some better fishing and we can only hope they are right. But, take heart the sea bass fishing reopens this week and at least bottom fishermen will have another option and can stop throwing the knuckleheads back.
