Karen over at AW Marina said that most folks are thinking bottom fishing now, with the opening of blackfishing and the hot scup bite. She did have one regular customer make another run to the Cape for tuna, but he found only lock-jawed fish that wouldn't even take a live mackerel. He reported that plenty of fish were surfacing around the boat, but that they were keyed-in on something he did not have.

Karen at AW Marina said that they saw photographic proof of a 48-inch striper caught at Fort Trumbull. The porgy fishing continues to impress local anglers there as well. The Thames is loaded with albies and some are being caught from shore, you just have to get creative when it comes to getting into that perfect spot.

I also heard from Karen at AW Marina in New London that Mike Hoehn nailed a 42-inch bass from Waterford Beach on a Jumpin' Minnow. Porgy action has been very good at Fort Trumbull as well. The eastern Sound is loaded with bait and bass, albies and bluefish have been biting well for the shore guys in the right spots.

  • August 28, 2017 Open or Close

Karen over at AW Marina said that it was another quiet week for offshore reports, likely due to the annual bluefishing craze for the WICC tournament. One of her customers did head south of Montauk to Habs ledge for some mahi, while others enjoys some solid summer cod fishing at Coxes Ledge. She knows that a few of her customers are headed offshore next week, and is hoping for some good reports.
