Jamaica II

November 12, 2018:
The crew of the Jamaica II got in a trio 12-hour trips this past week. Capt. Joe Bogan told me limits of nice size sea bass along with decent numbers of porgies put fish in the fish box. Recently dogfish have been cutting into the number of porgies anglers have been catching. Joe said fishing has been very good when the weather has served up good sea conditions.

Capt. Joe said the Jamaica II had been catching some nice sea bass. Gale warnings forced him to cancel Saturday's trip, but when they have been out the fishing has been good. He said they have been fishing in 100 to 140 feet of water anywhere from 14 to 35 miles offshore. Jigs have been very productive with anglers using them limiting out pretty easily. Of note were the hammered chrome AVA 027, 017, gold 027, and the 3-oiunce sand eel jigs. Those fishing bait were working harder to catch the 13-inch keepers. There were some porgies in the mix and he expects that fishing to improve.

Capt. Joe said the Jamaica II had decent trips for sea bass and porgies and had some limit catches of both. The sea bass were nice-sized and the porgies were coming up as fast as folks could reel. There was a bluefin tuna as a bonus. The boat didn't sail over the weekend but he expected to be going again as soon as the storm cleared out with the west wind tomorrow the ocean should be flat by Monday morning. Capt. Joe said the Jamaica II had cooler-filling trips during the week and into Saturday. Some days the ocean conditions have been sloppy, making anglers have to work harder, but he's still pleased with the catches of sea bass and porgies, both quantity and size. His anglers caught some triggerfish, ling, winter flounder, and some pollock, a few cod and even a lobster on one trip. Sunday was blown out, but he was optimistic that there would be good weather the rest of this week.

Capt. Joe said the Jamaica II has been finding very good fishing for sea bass with the season open again. There have been multiple limit catches and limit catches of big porgies as well, with some triggerfish in the mix. An extra treat has been bluefin tuna moving in and around the area where they are catching sea bass. The bluefin have been between 40 and 50 pounds and they lost a few that were more than 100 pounds, he said
