Bob's Bait Shack

August 14, 2017:
Darlene from Bob's Bait Shack told me fishing has really picked up this week. There are a lot of blues being caught around Nahant. There are huge schools of pogies in the inner harbor and around Long Island. There are also some pogies in Winthrop Harbor. The charter captains Darlene has talked with are reporting very happy customers catching many 40-plus-inch bass on live mackerel. No locations are being revealed but all the regular spots are sure to give up nice fish. Deer Island is producing lots of bass from the shore. Fresh chunked mackerel seems to be the bait of choice. The diehards at the Belle Isle Bridge are having a ball catching schoolies and the occasional keeper striper on fresh chunks of mackerel and sea worms. One customer said he has been catching tautog in East Boston from the Hyatt to Pierce Park by bottom fishing around the pilings.
