Misquamicut Bait & Tackle

November 13, 2017:
Mike Cardinal at Misquamicut Bait and Tackle said that there was still a lot of activity along the beaches with small bass chasing bait in tight to shore during the day. There have been some reports of larger stripers being caught after dark. Tautog fishing really picked up this past week with quite a few boats finding limit catches on the local reefs. Black sea bass fishing remains very good and there are still some nice sized scup around. It seems as if the false albacore have finally started to thin out and they may be about done for the season.

There weren't a lot of really big fish reported, but the numbers of striped bass and false albacore feeding along the beach was impressive. Black sea bass fishing remains red with fish on pretty much every reef and rock pile. Tautog fishing is pretty good and should only continue to get better as water temperatures fall.

Mike Cardinal at Misquamicut Bait and Tackle reported that there have been a lot of small bass chasing schools of peanut bunker along the beaches. There are still some false albacore around, but they seem to be thinning out. Tautog fishing is starting to heat up and black sea bass fishing is excellent. Scup reports are also still very good with some nice-sized, dinner-plate-sized fish being caught.

Mike Cardinal at Misquamicut Bait and Tackle said the false albacore fishing was absolutely phenomenal his past week with schools of albies chasing peanut bunker and small anchovies all along the beaches. These fish are on the move so you might need to check a few areas to find them. Striped bass fishing was a little quiet this past week, but there are still some fish being caught from the beaches and at the breachways after dark. Tautog fishing is starting to pick up but is still on the slow side for this time of year. The fishing will likely improve as water temperatures start to drop from where they are now in the mid-60s. Black sea bass fishing reopened on Sunday and the fishing remains as good as ever with people easily limiting out even with the increase to 7 fish. Scup fishing is holding up pretty well and they will likely stick around couple more weeks with these temperatures.

Mike Cardinal at Misquamicut Bait and Tackle said that surf fishing was a little slower this past week but most anglers were still finding a few fish. Some big bluefish were caught this past weekend, but striped bass were tough to find. Tautog fishing by boat has started to pick up and those targeting tautog are finding good numbers of big scup and black sea bass. This has been a great season for false albacore and they are still being caught in good numbers both from shore and by boat.
