Captain Seamus Muldoon of Jail Break Charters has been frustrated at the current state of the giant tuna fishery. Now that virtually every boat has a permit, fish are being brought in for sale at a rate that has flooded the market beyond comprehension. Seamus told me that guys have been begging the fish mongers to pay 50 cents a pound for giant bluefin. Seamus has been focusing his efforts on inshore species until it makes more sense to target some bluefin.

Capt. Seamus of Jail Break Charters said that it was a great week of giant bluefin fishing with a fat fall tuna coming back to the dock with him on each trip. Sadly the fishery is closed once again, but Seamus plans on doing some charters geared toward the recreational-class fish, of course tagging and releasing anything that the government classifies as "too big."

Capt. Seamus of Jail Break Charters reported a week of solid bluefin action. On some outings the fish were in the recreational class, while on others they were 80- 90 inches. Seamus said that almost all of his action has been on either live whiting or mackerel, however there were some smaller bluefin trolled in shallow water the weekend prior. Seamus passed along a tip on keeping the chumming to a minimum if setting up to bait fish. Apparently the sharks are still very thick, and they can destroy your bait spread in a matter of moments. Keeping the chum down will greatly reduce your chances of a shark infestation.

Capt. Seamus of Jail Break Charters told me that he's been able to get away from the striper grounds a couple of times to start hunting tuna. He's off to a good start, landing one bluefin of 285 pounds. His shark by-catch has been impressive, with porbeagles up to 300 pounds and threshers to 250 pounds! Seamus was gearing up for more tuna fishing this week.
