Seven B's

January 15, 2018:
Capt. Russ Benn of the Seven B's said that the boat only got out once last week with limited success. Despite beautiful weather which made for a great day on the water, the fishing left some to be desired. The boat was chartered by researchers working for Deepwater Wind and they spent most of the day fishing various "experimental" areas designated by the researchers. Captain Andy decided where to make the last drop where he found huge amounts of bait, but only a small handful of cod. It is just a matter of time before the fish hone in on the mass of bait on the grounds right now. Call today to see when the boat will be sailing next.

Andy has been running trips for cod as the weather allows and that the fishing has generally been pretty good with a nice mix of cod and black sea bass coming over the rails. As of December 27th trips will run from 5am to 3pm, and the schedule is usually dictated by the weather so it's best to either keep an eye on their website at or call Capt. Capt. Russ Benn of the Seven B's fished twice this past week due to the generally-poor weather. Friday's cod trip was good with fish into the mid-teens. They also had a load of big black sea bass to 6 pounds and a good shot of scup to 3 pounds. Regular cod trips will begin after the blackfish season closes on the 15th with sailing dependent on the fishery. Sunday is was back out for blackfish and it was very good for those who braved the weather and stayed at the rail. Top fish were in the 9- to 10-pound class with a sprinkling of cod to almost 20 pounds as well. As always, if you plan to fish aboard the Seven B's this time of year, be sure to call ahead to verify sailing details and to make your reservation.
