November 13, 2017:
Greg from Red Top in Buzzards Bay said that the Canal is still holding numbers of schoolie bass. Gannets have been spotted off the east end bombing schools of, what everyone presumes are, sea herring. This could be the last hope for a few good bass to run the Ditch. Fly guys hunting for schoolies have been picking up hickory shad in some of the estuaries along with some school bass. Things are winding down for sure.

Greg from Red Top in Buzzards Bay said that not much had changed since last week. There are still good numbers of school bass in the Canal with a few keepers mixed-in. There is still the possibility for a few bigger fish to charge through, that probability drops every day. But it's hard to feel down about 2017 if you're a Canal fisherman, what a year and it's not over yet.

Greg from Red Top in Buzzards Bay texted their report over on Saturday, "The season is getting away from us now, unfortunately. And the signs of people hanging it up for the season are apparent all around the Canal. Many morning drives into work have shown very few fishing vehicles in the lots. The guys that are going, though, are still catching some fish; most of them have been schoolies, but a few keepers are mixed-in as well—most of the bigger fish are taking tins and bucktails. With Halloween right around the corner, it's hard not to think about the Halloween 62-pounder caught Halloween night in 1998 on a live eel from the west end. Water and air temps are still high for this time of year, so there is still the possibility of a pod of big dawgs crashing the Ditch before we sign off for good. But if you're going to get that chance, you have to be out there grinding it out."

Greg from Red Top in Buzzards Bay said he was taking the bike rack off the truck this weekend as an epic Canal season seemed to be coming to a close. Keeper bass are still being caught on jigs, but most of the bass being taken are schoolies. There will probably be a few bigger fish rolling through over the next week or two, but things are winding down. The blackfish bite at the West End has been pretty good.

Greg from Red Top in Buzzards Bay texted his report over on Friday, "The season is closing in on us, but there still seems to be a lot of schoolie bass in the Canal with a few fish into the 20-pound class being taken on jigs after dark. The Canal is loaded with small bait, so smaller offerings are getting the most attention. There have been some large bluefish in the Ditch this week as well. Get out there while you still can, November is coming quick!"
