Greg from Red Top in Buzzards Bay texted me their last surf report for 2017, he said that there are still lots of 10- to 20-inch bass in several of the local estuaries right now. Hardcore guys have been doing a job on them with freshwater-sized spooks and poppers. Switching to single hooks on the plugs has been working well. The shore tog bite has been slowing down a bit now, it seems that the bigger fish have been moving deeper. Some of the guys that have hung it up for the season have been concentrating on an exceptional shore trout bite in the Cape ponds.

Greg from Red Top in Buzzards Bay said that the Canal is still holding numbers of schoolie bass. Gannets have been spotted off the east end bombing schools of, what everyone presumes are, sea herring. This could be the last hope for a few good bass to run the Ditch. Fly guys hunting for schoolies have been picking up hickory shad in some of the estuaries along with some school bass. Things are winding down for sure.

Greg from Red Top in Buzzards Bay said that not much had changed since last week. There are still good numbers of school bass in the Canal with a few keepers mixed-in. There is still the possibility for a few bigger fish to charge through, that probability drops every day. But it's hard to feel down about 2017 if you're a Canal fisherman, what a year and it's not over yet.
