October 15, 2018:
From Greg McSharry at Red Top in Buzzards Bay comes this week's repot via email. "Cold mornings and bass; this week in ol' fish funnel things cranked up a bit. Some nice bass were caught by the folks out there grinding away. Big, adult-sized pogies and the new moon of October brought in bass up to 38 pounds. The first light pencil bite was decent, but the bigger fish were caught on jigs of the sort. There are still albies kicking around. I spent most of my Saturday peddling the Canal in search of them with nothing to show for it but some exercise. The tog bite is good. We've been selling green crabs by the gallon to the folks getting after it. Colder weather is in the forecast, get out while you can!"

Greg McSharry over at Red Top in Buzzards Bay said the Canal is full of, "Schoolies, schoolies, schoolies and then a random big dog. That seems to be the pattern the last two weeks. Lots of schoolies and then bam, somebody pops a nice fish. Most of the big fish have been caught on the bottom. They are still out there and there are some good tides coming up this week so anything is possible. Also worth noting the tautog bite is picking up from both shore and boat."

Greg McSharry checked-in from Red Top this week to say that, "Fishing has been solid in the Canal this week. There was push of a few high 20- to low 30-pound fish mid-week going into the weekend. Bait was big pogies I'm told by the guys who have been out there grinding away and finally got to reap there reward. Tog fishing has been slow to start, but there are reports of a lot of albies in upper portions of Buzzards Bay. I also got word of some really big bluefish in the area, too."

Greg McSharry over at Red Top in Buzzards Bay says that, "This is the year of the schoolies in the Canal as there are lots of small fish around. There are some bigger fish in the mix, as the shop weighed-in a 25-pounder in the middle of week, but mostly the fish were well under this mark. Fortunately there is still lots of bait around with peanut pogies, silversides and some mackerel seen in the Canal. Albies have been in the west end all the way to the east end. The clock is starting to wind down, get out while you can!"

Greg McSharry from Red Top in Buzzards Bay sent me his report this week via email, saying that the "Downside of the new moon has been productive for a lot of folks fishing in the Canal. Bass in the teen to low-20-pound range have been chasing macks the last couple of days. Folks have been getting them on top, but the bigger fish have been caught subsurface. White seems to be the color of choice lately. There has been some awesome schoolie blitzes on peanut pogies, too. We also got word of some false albacore in the Canal. There are lots fish to catch, enjoy it while you can!!"
