Capt. Pete Sykes of the Parker Pete said there was some good striper fishing out of Shark River in between Christmas and New Year's, though the temperature drop really put a crimp in things. "Unless the temps warm up a lot I think I'm done for a bit," he said.

I spoke with Capt. Pete Sykes of the Parker Pete a couple days before Christmas and he said the striper fishing was red hot on jigs and the numbers were unbelievable in December when the boat got out. He said his trips saw a heavy mix of shorts, slots and keepers to the north of Shark River Inlet. Pete said he intends to fish the boat through January for the stripers and tog weather permitting.

Capt. Peter Sykes of the Parker Pete said on Sunday, he had Tom and the KTS crew out for a great December day with a light breeze and warm temps for this time of year. Capt. Pete said they read tons of life and saw plenty of fish and the whales were around too, adding, as the tide got moving, they started to pick a fish here and there, but just couldn't get dialed-in for whatever the reason, but the guys did land some delicious striped bass for the dinner table.

Capt. Peter Sykes of the Parker Pete said the striped bass fishing has thinned out so much that unless a charter is adamant about facing the conditions and going after them, small as they are, he will be focusing on blackfish the rest of the winter, adding he will fish until iced-in and cannot safely navigate our waters.
