Jersey Key Sportfishing Charters

November 13, 2017:
Another person that told us of an excellent week of striped bass fishing was Capt. Mike Sisto of Jersey Key Sportfishing. Mike said all his fish this past week were taken around schools of bunker under working birds on poppers and jigs. Almost all the bass were in the 28-inch to 30-pound plus class, he said.

"We have been fishing morning and evening since the middle of the week when the waters settled down," said Capt. Mike Sisto of Jersey Key Sportfishing. Mike told me he has been trolling to find the bass and fishing topwater baits once the fish start pushing the baitfish to the surface. Friday was an all out surface blitz with fish to 25 pounds being caught on poppers. Some trips have had to troll the bass on spoons and Mojos, but either way is producing plenty of fish. Jeff Petri had one of the top catches hammering bass to 30-pounds on topwater plugs.

A pair of striper trips and a pair of bottom fishing trips was the score card for Jersey Key Sportfishing this past week. Capt. Mike Sisto told me both bottom fishing trips saw a nice mix of sea bass, tog and porgies. The bass trips found stripers on the troll. Mike said this week the bass turned off to the eels and trolling was the only way to take them.

A pair of trips with Jersey Key Sportfishing found stripers and blues on one trip and a decent catch to albacore on the second trip. Capt. Mike Sisto said an early week trip served up a decent pick of stripers in New York Harbor. The second trip later in the week accounted for some bluefish and a very good catch of albacore. Mike said heavy boat traffic in lower New York Harbor is making the striper fishing tough. Once the bass start spreading out in Raritan Bay the larger amount to water will make for some easier fishing.

Capt. Mike Sisto of Jersey Key Sportfishing stated he managed to get out on one trip this past week putting anglers into a mix of stripers, blues and weakfish. Mike said he is starting to hear more reports of bass on the move and it looks like this year's bass run will be a late one.
