James Joseph Fishing

November 13, 2017:
Capt. Jim from the party boat James Joseph II from Huntington told us the boat has been seeing some downright excellent blackfishing. Saturday's trip was the best of the bunch. The boat was able to keep a limit of tog and threw back over 200 keeper size fish as well as hundreds of shorts. The boat landed over a dozen fish over 7 pounds and the biggest went over 9 pounds. Lock and load fishing is what the captain said of the trip. Jim added that the porgies have all but gone for the season but there are still some decent sea bass mixing in.

Capt. Jim from the party boat James Joseph II from Huntington tells us that the blackfishing has been improving this week. The boat saw one fish over 9 pounds this week and it took the pool on Saturday. Jim said that Saturday was the first day that they had a solid bite of bigger fish on every drop. They have been picking at some bigger fish since the season opened but it's been spotty. Jim added that they were still seeing kingfish and weakfish mixing in with all of the porgies as of Thursday's trip. The captain said that they will be targeting the blackfish from now until the end of the season but will have clam aboard for anyone that wants to add a few porgies into their coolers. He also noted that he expects the best blackfishing of the season to take place over the next few weeks so now's the time to come down and get in on the action.

Capt. Jim from the party boat James Joseph II from Huntington tells us that they have been seeing some very good fishing all week. They have been seeing plenty of porgies with lots of jumbo size fish in the mix. Jim said that they have seen between 1000 and 200 porgies come over the rails every day. There have been lots of northern kingfish mixing in with the porgies as well. Jim added that they have been really good numbers of weakfish around too. Most of the fish have been between 3 and 6 pounds but they have seen fish up to 7.5 pounds hit the deck this week. Sunday's trip saw a limit of weakfish come up. There have also been quite a few blackfish getting caught. Sunday's trip saw Mark Roberts from Bethpage take the pool with a 7-pound tog. The captain said that he plans to begin start trips targeting stripers on jigs in the first two weeks of November.

Capt. Jim from the party boat James Joseph II from Huntington tells us that they are seeing some excellent fall fishing. The big surprise this week is the amount of weakfish that the boat has been seeing. Thursday's trip saw a limit of weakfish to just over 5 pounds come over the rails. The pool was taken by a blackfish that went just over 6 pounds. They are still seeing tons of big porgies everywhere they go. The fish are in 20 to 40 feet of water and they are just absolutely overrunning everything else. There are also a few sea bass mixing in with the porgies. The boat hasn't really seen any good striper fishing as they only had one fish all week that fell for a jig on one of the evening blues and bass trips. The blues are around with plenty of fish up to 8 pounds coming over the rails. The blackfish have been in the shallows with most of the fish hanging in water less than 20 feet deep. Jim said that this is the best time to bring your light tackle out to flip jigs for blackfish.
