Murphy's Hook House

November 13, 2017:
At Murphy's Hook House, they were hearing of short striped bass being caught on artificials on the beach. There were some nice bass being reported from the Monmouth County beaches and the Brick Beach area, so they were hoping those bass will move into reach for the Island Beach State Park guys. Kyle Kozlowski picked up stripers in the Spring Lake surf on SP Minnows. Another customer stopped in and reported a 30-inch bass hit a Gibbs pencil popper in Lavallette at first light. The bass bite on live eels was still good in the Point Pleasant Canal, they said.

At Murphy's Hook House, there are scattered short bass with a few keepers mixed in off the local beaches along with a few small blues. Fishing with artificials and a teaser helps and don't stick to one spot if you're not getting bites. Bunker chunks are the preferred bait at the moment for the bass though some are being caught on clams. There were some fish around early morning, at dusk and into the night. One customer came in just after dark and said he had three shorts at Island Beach State Park using a Jetty Ghost rainfish with a teaser at dusk. All three fish hit in the wash. Those fishing live eels at the canal are doing well after dark. They had fresh clams and fresh bunker over the weekend.

The canal and the north jetty are giving up blackfish on green crabs and those throwing eels and SP Minnows in the canal are picking up blues and the occasional bass.
