Avalon Hodge Podge

November 13, 2017:
Tammie and Dave at Avalon Hodge Podge reported that the tog fishing is still strong, with anglers chomping at the bit for the limit increase in a couple days, and it looks as though blackfish will hang in there for it. The T.I. bridge and 8th Street have been the spots of choice. Bass fishing has picked up just a bit and those anglers hanging around out back have had a few days of god fishing, but there are a mess of shorter bass around. The shop will close its doors for the season on November 25th, and you can call ahead for bait availability.

Previous Reports

  • November 6, 2017 Open or Close

Tammie and Dave at Avalon Hodge Podge reported that the bass fishing is starting slowly, and reports of stripers are surfacing from the surf and back bay, though the fish are smaller in size. Tog fishing has been very strong, and anglers are having a blast at the TI Bridge and out at Eighth Street. Tammie also reported solid numbers of blackfish out front on the reefs, as well as some nice sea bass, with Scott Ferrara of Sparta hooking a nice 20-inch whitechin on Friday. Snapper blues continue to inhabit local waters and the largest of the choppers is around the 4-pound mark. The shop will close for the season on November 25, and you can stop by and get some supplies while Tammie and Dave are still at the registers.

  • October 30, 2017 Open or Close

Tammie and Dave at Avalon Hodge Podge reported that the bass fishing around the back has been okay, though a lot of shorts are mixing it up as anglers await the motherlode. Bluefish continue to fill local waters and tog fishing has offered lots of action again this week, with more shorts to sift as time passes. A few keeper bass are coming in by those who persist, and the offshore fishing is good for those who can get out front. Tammie tells of a good bite on mahi, and Tim and his crew hit the Wilmington to load up this past week.

  • October 23, 2017 Open or Close

Tammie and Dave at Avalon Hodge Podge reported that though the kingfish and triggerfish action has dropped off just a bit this past week, anglers have switched it up and have found some success on bass fishing; there have been a few nicer-sized fish caught around the bridges and mostly by night. A few anglers have reported some keeper liners off the surf in Stone Harbor, and it looks as though the bite is slowly coming about, with bunker, clams and surface plugs all working to hook some fish. Tog fishing is still an item and anglers have some sifting to do, but keeper blackfish are there for those who persist.

  • October 16, 2017 Open or Close

Tammie and Dave at Avalon Hodge Podge reported that anglers are still finding some kingfish around Avalon and triggerfish are also on the menu; some folks over at TI Bridge are still on the sheepshead and a few nice ones have come to the scales. Tammie also relays that anglers are still doing well on tog and they've been quite a savior during slow periods or bad weather days. Small bass are being caught in the back bay and a keeper has been caught occasionally, and crabbing is still good, but time is limited for hand-liners as air temps will cool down this coming week.
