Capt. Matt on the Norma K III is sailing everyday that weather allows, which wasn't really allowable heading into the weekend. In the mini-heatwave late last week though, they did get into some blackfishing. "Few anglers had their limit of blackfish," he said, a couple of single and double fish around the boat and just shorts as well. "Still a little slow but much better than what we have seen," he said last Thursday. On Sunday he said he received a fresh batch of crabs – both greenies and whites – and plans to rock and roll everyday possible this week leaving at 7:30 a.m. on the nose.

Capt. Matt on the Norma K III was all ready to set sail on Sunday morning but the tide was too low and the ice around the boat was 3 to 4 inches thick. "Pretty rare to see the ice that thick where we are docked," Mat said, adding "needless to say we did not go this morning." He said he hoped to be back at it as of Tuesday and with the warmer weather forecasted for this week he plans to get back to sailing every possible day for blackfish, leaving at 7:30 a.m. and returning by 2:30.

Capt. Matt on the Norma K III said anglers braved the cold on December 29 and 30, though blackfish were a bit sluggish. "We caught a few here and there but there was room for improvement," Matt said, adding that more bites seem to come later in the day. He said water temps were in the 40's on the holiday weekend trips and the Norma K will continue sailing every day at 7:30 a.m. to hit the tautog grounds.
