Captree Fuel, Bait and Tackle

Brenden at Captree Bait & Tackle spoke of a few fluke off the Captree piers with another 5 pounder recorded this week. A couple of weakfish came from the Robert Moses piers during the week. Nothing on bluefish this week, but there have been some small bass on the back of Demo at night and daybreak on bucktails, swimming plugs and soft plastics.

  • August 6, 2018 Open or Close

    Brenden at Captree Bait & Tackle spoke of lots of cow nose rays and some sharks this week taking chunks along the open beach, with just an occasional bluefish reported. Some short bass are on the back of Demo and Robert Moses on soft plastics and swimming plugs at night and dawn, and there are still fluke to 5 pounds being taken off the Captree Pier, but the bite has slowed. A few weakfish were caught on jelly worms in the Sore Thumb area, and triggerfish are at the Thumb and rocks opposite Field 2 Robert Moses.   • July 30, 2018 Open or Close

    Brenden at Captree Bait & Tackle said some keeper fluke came off the Captree Pier this week, including a pair of 5 pounders on bucktails and Gulp. Some small weakfish were also reported from the pier. Some short bass came from West End Jones Beach, Demo and the Captree shoreline on swimming plugs, bucktails and soft plastics. Chunkers working the open beach are catching sharks and rays.

    Dylan at Captree Bait & Tackle said fluking remains pretty consistent on the Captree Piers and back of Demo but fishing the last half of the incoming makes all the difference in the world. A few weakfish have come from Demo and the Sore Thumb. Use bucktails and Gulp for both. Some small blues and bass are coming from the Back of Demo and Robert Moses at night, but most guys are directing their attention to sharks, with the edge going to those fishing at night.

  • July 16, 2018 Open or Close

    Brenden at Captree Bait & Tackle said both Captree piers produced pretty good fluke action, with the main pier in front of the shop having the edge this week. Bucktails and chartreuse Gulp have worked best. Nothing on bass but he did hear of a couple of 3 to 5-pound blues caught on bunker chunks at Demo and Robert Moses. Quite a few sharks and rays being reported on bunker chunks along the oceanfront. Demo Day for ODM, including their new DNA surf series is this Saturday, July 21, from 10 a.m. to noon.
