Capt'n Hippo Bait and Tackle

August 10, 2020:
When I called Capt'n Hippo Bait & Tackle Lenny was not a happy camper. The power outage had wiped out his killies and shiners and was doing the slow melt with his frozen baits. Prior to the storm there was good bass fishing in Wells Mills, Ocean Acres and decent panfishing in the pond at Ocean County Community College. "Hopefully things will return to a some what normal state of affairs this week," he said.

From the central portion of the coast comes word of some decent largemouth action. Lenny over at Capt'n Hippo Bait & Tackle told me despite the hot weather several anglers reported decent topwater fishing at Wells Mills and some early day bass action in the Ocean County Community College Pond along with very good bluegill fishing. Horicon Lake and some of the bogs off Route 70 are still giving up some decent size pickerel on minnows, as well.

Pickerel fishing in the bogs and ponds west of Lakehurst continues to provide some good fishing, despite the recent hot weather, said Lenny over at Capt'n Hippo Bait & Tackle. Lenny said he also got reports to some morning bass action at Ocean Acres and some good panfishing at the Ocean County College Pond.

Freshwater fishing along the central coast saw some ups and downs this past week, stated Lenny over at Capt'n Hippo Bait & Tackle. Last Friday's rains gave the pickerel fishing in the cedar waters a boost. Bass fishing has been fair in Ocean Acres, while panfishing has been decent in the pond at Ocean County College. Trilco continues to give up some pickerel and panfish.

The big news over at Capt'n Hippo Bait & Tackle was a 30-plus inch pickerel caught from Trilco. Lenny said the big chainside was taken on a killie. Most local lakes and ponds are also giving up some bass to early morning to fishermen using frogs and buzzbaits. The Ocean County College Pond is still serving up plenty of panfish and an occasional bass.
