Cold Spring Charters

September 24, 2018:
I connected with Capt. Herb Hahn of Cold Spring Harbor Charters and porgy action continues to be excellent. The charters have also had fun diamond jigging cocktail blues. Local bass activity has been very slow. The captain has open dates for the fall blackfish season so call now.

I heard from Capt. Herb Hahn of Cold Spring Harbor Charters and his fares have been banging at loads of porgies and cocktail blues. He noted there is no shortage of either species. The trips have seen a few sea bass but not many summer flatties. He is pleased that good numbers of spearing have appeared.

Capt. Herb Hahn of Cold Spring Charters told me bass fishing is pretty good with the fares seeing smaller fish and some of a decent size. The bite has occurred either very early in the morning or at sunset. A fat fluke of 7-pounds was captured during the week but such keepers are hard to come by. Porgy action is holding steady on small to medium fish. No blues were seen during the week.

Capt. Herb from Cold Spring Harbor Charters said that the weather has been keeping the boat tied to the dock for most of the past week. He added that when he was able to get off the ropes he found decent sized porgies in Oyster Bay and Cold Spring Harbor. He said that they have also started to see some fluke in the local waters. He added that the fish they have been seeing have been well above keeper size. The captain also said that he's starting to run open boat trips when the boat isn't chartered. You can call the captain at 516-641-3401 to book a trip or get more information on the open sailing schedule.

Capt. Herb from Cold Spring Harbor Charters said that the bass bite has been pretty darn good this week. The captain said that he's been chunking and live lining bunker all week. The boat has seen a good shot of fish to 25 pounds on the bunker. He also said that the fluke bite has been consistent. The boat has seen plenty of fish over the 19-inch minimum size limit as well as some really nice fish in the 6 pound class come over the rails this week. When I asked Herb about bluefish he said that there were a few bite offs this week but he hasn't been able to land anything yet so he thinks that the blues are on the small side so far. The captain also mentioned that the boat is will be running open boat trips when he can. You can give the captain a call at 516-641-3401 to get more information or to book your charter.
