Osprey V

November 13, 2017:
Capt. JP of the Osprey out of Port Jefferson told us that the cooler water temps have been helping the blackfishing this past week. The boat has been seeing more keepers mixing in with the shorts over the past week. There are even a few porgies being taken as well. The boat's half day trips have ended for the year and the captain wishes to thank everyone for a great season and looks forward to seeing everyone back on board next year. The boat will again be running their annual Thanksgiving Morning trip this year. The trip will run from 6 30 a.m. and will return to the dock promptly at 1 p.m. so everyone can get to enjoy their Thanksgiving dinner. Reservations are required and all those who make a reservation will be entered into a raffle for a custom fishing rod. JP also said that the boat will be supplying egg sandwiches for everyone too. JP also said that the boat's last trip in New York for the 2017 season will be on November 26. They will be moving the operation down to Atlantic City for the winter to continue the blackfishing. The trips will run from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. and will be limited to 30 anglers per trip. JP added that reservations are required. You can go to their webpage at to get further details or even make your reservation.

In from Capt. JP of the Osprey out of Port Jefferson we heard that they were hampered by weather during most of last week. When they were able to sail they found good to very good fishing. The porgies and sea bass were very cooperative and filled plenty of coolers and buckets on board. They started fishing in shallower water but moved out to the Middle Grounds where the fishing has been heating up.JP said the fall run is heating up and really in full swing. They have been finding a few blackfish mixing in with the porgies but they are switching over to full time blackfishing beginning on Saturday October 28.
